“My name is Salome, and I come from Tbilisi, Georgia. I participated in a long-term volunteering project in Magdeburg, Germany through the European Solidarity Corps. During my time there, I worked with an NGO focused on international exchange, cultural dialogue, and youth engagement. This experience allowed me to develop both professionally and personally while contributing to meaningful projects.

My role was very diverse and dynamic. I was actively involved in organizing and facilitating a weekly language café, where people from different cultural backgrounds could come together, practice languages, and connect with each other.

I also supported the organization and implementation of international youth activities, including the Eurocamp, where young people from many EU and its partner countries participated in intercultural exchange. In addition, I contributed to evening programs, creative workshops, and community-building activities.

A central focus of my volunteering year was the project “Europe goes further”, which is dedicated to political education for school students and raising awareness about European values and institutions. Within this project, I created content materials, participated in workshops and public events. I also visited Brussels to gain a deeper understanding of how European institutions function and to connect this knowledge with local perspectives.

This experience helped me grow in many ways. I improved my communication skills, especially in an international and intercultural environment. I also learned how to take responsibility, manage tasks independently, and work as part of a team.

Professionally, I gained experience in project coordination, event organization, and working with volunteers. I also developed skills in content creation and learned how important communication and visibility are for non-profit organizations.

This volunteering experience confirmed my interest in working in the field of international projects, education, and cultural exchange. It helped me understand what kind of work environment I enjoy and where I would like to develop further.
