Nikoloz Makhatadze is a Georgian volunteer who joined Stowarzyszenie POLITES, in Poland and carries out his long-term European Solidarity Corps project funded by Erasmus +. Read what he says about his upcoming experience:
Going on an exchange is a great way to make my own reliable picture of Europe based on the personal experience. I’ve always wanted to go to Europe because I know that it has a diverse range of cultures where different traditions meet, therefore, by going on an exchange I can get deep insights into another culture, which will enrich my life and show me a different perspective of the world. I believe that these 10 months will be very beneficial in terms of gaining new knowledge, experience and skills that will help me for the future.
Furthermore, I believe that this project will also allow me to make a lot of international friends and give me a chance to work with future international colleagues more efficiently. This will be one of the most important experiences for me. Collaborating with youth from different countries will allow me to develop cross-cultural communication skills and see different perspectives. Also, it provides an opportunity to learn from others while respecting and valuing their differences in religious and ethnic beliefs.
Being a volunteer for me means helping others to become the best version of themselves. When I was younger, I always had someone next to me who could give me a piece of advice, help me out to overcome any challenges and put me on a best path of life. Therefore, I believe that everyone should have a change to get something important from others to make their lives even more exciting, beneficial and rich of knowledge and experience.
In conclusion, I’d say that this is an opportunity that many people would want to experience because it will be a starting point of a successful life not only for me but also for the others who live in the same community as me. “The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do” – I’ve always believed in those words and no matter how many times I will face challenges, ups, and downs I will still be directing my life to become a better person, making my country a desired place for everyone and making fundamental changes which will lead all of us to a better life.
